A Message from NNR President

Jens Hedström Better regulation remains a hot topic, even as the outdoor temperature is creeping downwards. The Swedish Government has made this a priority area during the Swedish Presidency of the EU and, in a few weeks, the International Regulatory Reform Conference 2009 will take place in Stockholm. Between 11 and 13 November, professionals involved in regulatory reform from all around the world will gather to discuss results achieved and challenges ahead.

European Voice: Quick, Cheap and Simple Solutions to the Economic Crisis

EuropeanVoice On 24 September, European Voice published an article by NNR President, Jens Hedström, and President of the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise and Vice President of BusinessEurope, Signhild Arnegård Hansen. The article argues that dealing with an economic crisis does not have to be expensive. One solution that would be relatively quick and cheap would be to substantially simplify business regulation.

International Regulatory Reform Conference 11-13 November 2009

There is still time to register for the biggest regulatory reform event of the year, the International Regulatory Reform Conference (IRRC) 2009. The conference will take place at the former München brewery in Stockholm and is jointly hosted by NNR, the Swedish Ministry of Enterprise, Energy and Communications and the Bertelsmann Foundation. Business representatives, politicians and civil servants from around the world will hear about successful regulatory reform initiatives that have delivered positive results for business. Among the speakers are Swedish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Enterprise, Maud Olofsson, Chairman of the High Level Group of Independent Stakeholders on Administrative Burdens, Edmund Stoiber, OECD Deputy Secretary, Aart De Geus, and Member of the European Court of Auditors, Henri Grethen.

Barroso Underlines the Importance of “Smart Regulation”

Sweden has made better regulation for business a priority during its presidency of the EU. NNR also welcomes the renewed commitment by EU Commission President, José Manuel Barroso, to improving community legislation. In his political guidelines for the mandate of the next Commission, published in September 2009, Barroso expresses his intention to go further than to deliver on the Commission’s commitment to reduce administrative burdens on business by 25 per cent.
